Below is my weekly schedule so you can see which rotation day your child has art class. Each week I will give an overview of what students will be learning and creating in art class. 9/25/12 (Day 1) through 10/1/12 (Day 5)



Below you will find a brief description of what each grade level will be completing in art class this week along with any important vocabulary and/or artists.

Kindergarten (Potts-Day 1, Kaminsky-Day 3, Bernosky-Day 4, and Guldin-Day 5)
The students will complete sketchbook assignment at the beginning of class.

The students will be introduced to the primary colors of RED, YELLOW, and BLUE. The students will discuss how they are used to make the secondary colors.

The students will be introduced to the artist Piet Mondrian and his artwork.


The students will look at and discuss “Broadway Boogie Woogie” and determine what the subject matter might be and what may have influenced Piet Mondrian.

The students will complete class activity in which they listen to two different types of music and create a different drawing that matches each type of music.

1st Grade (Bridy-Day 1, Burns-Day 2, and Cooper-Day 4)

The students will complete sketchbook assignment at the beginning of class.

The students will discuss music and how it can influence artwork.

The students will complete class activity in which they listen to two different types of music and create a different drawing that matches each type of music.

The students will define abstract artwork and be introduced to the artwork of Wassily Kandinsky.

The students will view his artwork and determine what types of music might have influenced his art.

The students will practice interpreting music by completing drawings in which they draw abstractly to match the type of music.

2nd Grade (Bell-Day 1, Schalles-Day 2, Ressler-Day 3, and Corinchock-Day 5)


The students will complete sketchbook assignment at the beginning of class.

The students will review information about the Caves at Lascaux including what materials, techniques, and subject matter the artists used to create cave art.

 

The students will continue creating a piece of cave art using only the colors that were available in the past (Earthtone colors), using the techniques available (dimmed lighting and rough surfaces) and the main subject matter from that time (animals and symbols).


The students will finish their drawings and color in their animals and symbols. They will use watercolors to darken the paper.

3rd Grade (Shadle-Day 2. Laudeman-Day 3, and Selgrade-Day 5)

The students will complete sketchbook assignment at the beginning of class.

The students will review the types of texture and then complete a class activity in which they find textures around the classroom and create texture rubbings.

The students will be introduced to the artwork of Vincent Van Gogh. The students will discuss his artwork and use of texture.

The students will complete a landscape drawing in the style of Van Gogh.

4th Grade (Nestor-Day 1, Herring-Day 2, and Burda-Day 3)

The students will complete sketchbook assignment at the beginning of class.

The students will define landscape, the parts of a landscape, and view examples of landscape artworks.

The students will finish landscape worksheet.

The students will follow along with demonstration to create a landscape drawing.

5th Grade (Kempsey-Day 3 and Wolfe-Day 4)

The students will complete sketchbook assignment at the beginning of class.

The students will review value, shadows, light source, and shading.

The students will finish value study worksheet.

 

 



6th Grade (Ney-Day 1, Adams-Day 2, Hysock-Day 3, and Kessler-Day 5)


The students will complete sketchbook assignment at the beginning of class.

The students will review Zen-tangles, view examples of Zen-tangle designs and discuss the technique.

The students finish their own Zentangle design and then mount it on colored construction paper.
