Below is my weekly schedule so you can see which rotation day your child has art class. Each week I will give an overview of what students will be learning and creating in art class. I will also include relevant images, information, and links to additional resources. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns!!

Below you will find a brief description of what each grade level will be completing in art class this week along with any important vocabulary and/or artists.

Kindergarten (Potts-Day 1, Kaminsky-Day 3, Bernosky-Day 4, and Guldin-Day 5)

The students will review the primary colors of RED, YELLOW, and BLUE and the artist Piet Mondrian.

The students will learn the correct way to use glue stick and how to glue down pieces of paper.

The students will glue down lines, squares, and rectangles to their Mondrian Painting.

1st Grade (Bridy-Day 1, Burns-Day 2, and Cooper-Day 4)


The students will complete sketchbook assignment.

The students will review the concept of abstract artwork.


The students will view examples and discuss the artwork of Joan Miro.


The students will find and point out recognizable objects within the abstract pieces.


The students will practice drawing basic shapes and making an abstract artwork that still contains recognizable objects.

2nd Grade (Bell-Day 1, Schalles-Day 2, Ressler-Day 3, and Corinchock-Day 5)

The students will complete sketchbook assignment at the beginning of class.

The students will review Egyptian art and culture. The students will view examples and discuss the importance of Egyptian customs and techniques.

The students will review how Hieroglyphics were used as symbols for letters.

The students will view examples of Egyptian artwork and practice drawing Hieroglyphics, symbols, and images.

3rd Grade (Shadle-Day 2. Laudeman-Day 3, and Selgrade-Day 5)


The students will review the artwork of Vincent Van Gogh.

The students will discuss his artwork and use of texture.

They will transfer their landscape drawing to foil and then create texture on the foil by manipulating the foil with various tools.

The students will use Sharpies to add contrast to their projects.

4th Grade (Nestor-Day 1, Herring-Day 2, and Burda-Day 3)

The students will finish landscape drawing on cardboard.

The students will discuss relief sculpture and the difference between 2D and 3D.

The students will make their landscapes three-dimensional by adding model magic to the middleground and foreground.

Relief Sculpture:



5th Grade (Kempsey-Day 3 and Wolfe-Day 4)

 

The students will review value, shadows, light source, and shading.

The students will discuss still lifes. The students will view examples of still lifes and they will be able to determine what makes a successful still life.

The students will finish sketching in the basic shapes and location of objects in the still life. They will refine their shapes, determine where the light source is, and then begin adding value.

6th Grade (Ney-Day 1, Adams-Day 2, Hysock-Day 3, and Kessler-Day 5)


The students will complete sketchbook assignment at the beginning of class.

The students will review Illuminated Letters, Art Nouveau, and Art Deco.

The students will finish worksheet in which the students practice and utilize a variety of fonts and styles of letters.

The students will begin sketching ideas for the illuminated letter project.
