Below is my weekly schedule so you can see which rotation day your child has art class. Each week I will give an overview of what students will be learning and creating in art class. Wednesday- The students will be introduced to the next project, Fantasy Cities.
Thursday- The students will begin sketching ideas for the project.
Friday- The students will continue developing ideas.


Beginning Drawing (3rd, 4th, and 5th, Periods)
Monday- The students will learn landscape vocabulary and view landscape art.
Tuesday-  The students will learn pastel techniques and experiment with pastels.
Wednesday-The students will be introduced to the next project and begin sketching ideas.
Thursday-The students will continue sketching and transfer sketches onto larger paper.
Friday- The students will begin adding pastels to the project.


Intro to Art (6th Period)
Monday- The students will finish drawing activity and then be introduced to the next project and begin sketching ideas.
Tuesday- Students will continue sketching ideas.
Wednesday- Students will transfer hand drawings on larger paper.

Thursday- Ten realistically drawn hands due today. Students will be introduced to Surrealism. The students will begin surrealist drawing activity.
Friday- The students will finish drawing activity and then be introduced to the next project and begin sketching ideas.

Thursday- The students will discuss self-portraits and view a number of artist self-portraits. The students will learn about the proportions of the face and begin their self-portrait drawing.
Friday- Students will continue their self-portrait.

Beginning Drawing (3rd, 4th, and 5th, Periods)

Wednesday-Students will finish shading and hand in Stacked Boxes project. The students will be introduced to various type of charcoal and charcoal tools. The students will complete an abstract charcoal drawing.
Thursday-Students will be introduced to various compositional techniques. The students will create a series of texture rubbings.
Friday- The students will be introduced to negative space and create a series of negative space sketches.

Monday- The students will finish and hand in their Shattered Values Project. The students will review the Window Painting contest requirements and begin sketching ideas.

Monday-Students will review the answers for last week's quiz. Then they will finish up their Narrative Art project and complete a self-evaluation.
Tuesday- Students will be introduced to the next unit of study, Artists as Designers. The class will view examples of design and be given a sketchbook assignment to complete in class.
Wednesday- Students will be introduced to Frank Lloyd Wright and Frank Gehry and discuss various types of architecture.
Thursday- The students will learn vocabulary related to perspective and complete a one point perspectice drawing.
Friday-The students will review key vocabulary and complete a two point perspective drawing.



Beginning Drawing (3rd, 4th, and 5th periods)
Monday-The students will review the answers from last week's quiz. The students will continue working on the Value Still Life.
Tuesday-The students will continue working on their Value Still Life. They will be handed in tomorrow. Any drawing that isn't finished must be completed for homework.
Wednesday- Students will complete a self-evaluation and hand in their projects. The students will be introduced to the next unit of study. The students will discuss charcoal and gesture drawings.
Thursday- The students will complete a series of gesture drawings.
Friday-The students will complete a series of charcoal drawings using various techniques.

Monday- Students will review the requirements and grading procedures of their first project, Paper Cut-Out Narrative. The students will begin sketching and developing ideas.
Tuesday- Students should have concrete ideas for the project and be able start cutting the construction paper.
Wednesday-Students will continue working on their project. Students will have a study guide to complete for homework, due tomorrow.
Thursday-The students will finish up their projects and complete a self-evaluation. The class will go over the answers to the study guide to review for tomorrow's quiz.
Friday- Students will be given quiz on Unit 1: Artists as Storytellers.



Beginning Drawing (3rd, 4th, and 5th Periods)

Monday- Students will be introduced to the first project, Value Still Life. The students will be given the requirements and grading procedures. The students will begin sketching the still life.
Tuesday- The students will continue sketching the still life. The students should be starting to add value to their drawing.
Wednesday- The students will continue working on the still life drawing. The students will be given a study guide to complee for homework, due tomorrow.
Thursday- The students will finish their drawings and complete a self-evaluation. The class will go over the answers to the study guide to review for tomorrow's quiz.
Friday- The students will be given quiz.



Intro to Art (6th Period)

Monday- The students will be introduced to their first project, Shattered Value Study. They will be given the requirements and grading procedures. The students will begin brainstorming ideas and start preliminary sketches.
Tuesday- The students will begin working on their drawing.
Wednesday-The students will continue working on their drawing. The students will be given a study guide to complete for homework, due tomorrow.
Thursday- The students will finish their drawing and complete a self-evaluation. The students will go over the amswers of the study guide to review for tomorrow's quiz.
Friday- The students will be given quiz.

Tuesday: The students will be introduced to the artwork and techniques of Carmen Lomas Garza and Kara Walker, two artists who use paper cut out techniques to create narrative art.
Wednesday:The students will be introduced to Notan, a Japanese paper cutting technique. The students will view examples and develop Notan designs of their own.
Thursday:The students will take their Notan designs and create their own Notan paper cutting piece.
Friday: The students will be introduced to a second paper cutting technique, Wycinanki. The students will view examples and begin to develop their own design ideas.


Beginning Drawing (3rd, 4th, and 5th Periods)

Monday:No School
Tuesday: The students will be introduced to various grades of graphite pencils. The students will also learn different shading techniques. The students will complete a value scale worksheet.
Wednesday: The students will be given their first sketchbook assignment and given time to complete it in class.
Thursday: The students will be introduced to different types of lines. The class will discuss contour lines. The students will complete blind contour and pure contour drawing exercises
Friday: The students will complete their second sketchbook assignment

Intro to Art (6th Period)
Monday: No School

Tuesday: The students will be introduced to various grades of graphite pencils. The students will also learn different shading techniques. The students will complete a value scale worksheet.
Wednesday: The students will discuss spatial relationships in various pieces of artwork.The students will complete a sketchbook assignment that includes value and space.
Thursday:The students will be introduced to different types of lines and line qualities.
Friday: The students will discuss achieving the illusion of texture on a two dimensional surface. The students will complete a sketchbook assignment that includes line and texture.

August 30th-September 3rd

7th Grade Art (1st and 7th periods)

Monday-Intro to the Art Room-Students will review the syllabus which highlights rules and expectations for the class. Students will be shown around the art room and then be given time to answer an art survey and create a portfolio to keep their artwork in.
Tuesday- Students will be introduced to the first unit of study: Artists as Storytellers. Students will be shown various pieces of artwork and discuss their significance and the story behind the artwork.Students will develop ideas about what influences narrative artwork and ways in which artists tell stories through their art. The students will complete a writing prompt that will count as their first sketchbook assignment in which they respond to a piece of artwork and use their imagination to tell the story behind the piece.
Wednesday-The students will be introduce to two artists who use paper cutting to tell stories. Students will be able to compare and contrast the two artists' techniques and methods.
Thursday-The students will be given their second sketchbook assignment in which they will use cut out simple shapes to tell a story in one scene. Students will work for the entire period on their assignment.
Friday-The students will be given time to complete their sketchbook assignments. The students will be given time to share their work and hold a critique to critically look at the work.




Beginning Drawing (3rd, 4th, and 5th periods)

Monday-Intro to the Art Room-Students will review the syllabus which highlights rules and expectations for the class. Students will be shown around the art room and then be given time to answer an art survey and create a portfolio to keep their artwork in.
Tuesday- Students will be instructed to complete three pre-instruction drawings. These will be used to judge the student's drawing ability and used at the end of the course to see a progression in each student's drawings.
Wednesday- The students will complete a series of drawing exercises that will help develop their eye for drawing.
Thursday-
Students will be introduced to the first media: Graphite pencils. The students will learn about the various grades of graphite and complete a value sheet.
Friday-
The students will be given their first sketchbook assignment and be given time to complete it in class.




Intro to Art (6th Period)

The students will complete an exercise that will help the students with their critical thinking skills and help the students learn to look at the world in a visual way.
Wednesday-
The students will be introduced to looking at an interpreting pieces of art. The students will discuss various artworks.
Thursday-
The students will review how to interpret pieces of art and be given their first sketchbook assignment.
Friday-
The students will share their sketchbook assignments and discuss how they compare and contrast.

My name is Miss McDonald and I am a brand new art teacher here at North Schuylkill Jr/Sr High School! I will be teaching all of the 7th grade art sections, Beginning Drawing classes and one section of Intro to Art.I look forward to a great year with a lot of fun projects in store!
