Welcome Back!!!!!

Parents and Students,

Welcome back to a new school year! My name is Mrs. Zink and I am pleased to be your son/daughter's art teacher this year. I’m thrilled to be starting my second year here at North Schuylkill Elementary and my fourth year in the district. I look forward to a great year! Below you will find basic information about the classroom rules, grading, and contact information. Make sure to check back each week to see what your child will be learning about and creating in art class!

In art class this year, your son/daughter will have the opportunity to explore exciting materials and techniques, along with learn about many interesting artists and art movements. To begin each art class, each student will complete a sketchbook assignment. They will be simple drawing exercises that will encourage creativity and get the student prepared to draw. Students will also complete worksheets and activities in class that highlight important concepts and vocabulary that are taught throughout each unit of study. Students will then complete projects in which they will further apply knowledge and demonstrate techniques and concepts that have been taught.

In order to ensure the best environment, students will be expected to follow these art room rules: be respectful, listen and follow directions, clean up after yourself, use materials and tools properly, and try your best! The students will be graded for their daily participation and following of the classroom rules.

I have high expectations for each student but I recognize that all of us learn, create, and express ideas in different ways. One of the main ideas that I will impress upon the students is to always “Try Your Best”. Each student is capable of creating successful, meaningful artwork, regardless of their artistic ability.

Each project will be graded using a rubric that will assess the following:
*Understanding of Key Concepts from throughout the Lesson
*Craftsmanship/ Use of Materials
*Creativity
*Effort and Participation
*Ability to Follow Directions
If you want to find out what your child will be doing in art class, make sure to check back each week. It is updated every Day 1. I will also include information about when your child’s class will be working with paint and other materials that are messy, so that your child may dress appropriately. I recommend having the student bring an old t-shirt to use as a smock when we will be painting. I will also include important images, artists, or websites that relate to what the students are learning in class.

I look forward to another exciting year!
