Below is my weekly schedule so you can see which rotation day your child has art class. Each week I will give an overview of what students will be learning and creating in art class. Days 1-5
(September 29-October 5)

 

Kindergarten-
The students review the primary colors and the artist Piet Mondrian, who uses the primary colors in his artwork. The students will learn how to properly trace patterns and then create a picture using squares and rectangles. The students will discuss proper ways to use paint and paintbrushes. If time allows, the students will begin painting their shapes.
***Students may bring in a smock, paint shirt or old t-shirt to wear over top of their clothes while painting.  I do have a limited number of paint shirts available for those who do not bring in a paint shirt.
Here are some resources I use in class to help the students learn and remember the primary colors!



1st Grade-
The students will review realistic and abstract artwork. They will learn about the artist Joan Miro. They will discuss his abstract artwork and then complete coloring sheet by coloring in abstract shapes.


 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
2nd Grade-
If any students did not finish their Cave Art project they will finish it today. The students will be introduced to Egyptian art and architecture. The students will learn about Egyptian Hieroglyphics. They will complete hieroglyphics worksheet.
 
 

 

3rd Grade-
If any students did not finish printing their foil, they will finish it today. The students will be introduced to value and shading. They will learn how to complete a value scale and practice shading objects.

 

4th Grade-
If any students did not finish coloring in their landscape, they will finish it today. The students will discuss 2D and 3D artwork. They will discuss how they could create a 3D landscape. The students will sketch their idea on cardboard and begin adding model magic to make their landscape 3D.

 
 


5th Grade-
The students will review important rules of composition and how to place objects on their paper in an interesting way. The students will finish their still life exercise. The students will be given the project requirements and then be given demonstration of how to properly begin sketching a still life. They will begin the still life project.   

 

 
 
 
6th Grade-
The students will review information on Zen-tangles and the project requirements. The students will finish adding details and then mount their project on construction paper. Any student who finishes will begin next sketchbook assignment.

Days 6-10
(September 22-September 28)

 

Kindergarten-
The students will be introduced to the primary colors. They will learn what they are and why they are special. They will also learn about the artist Piet Mondrian, who uses the primary colors in his artwork. They will complete worksheet using primary colors.

 


1st Grade-
The students will review realistic and abstract artwork. They will discuss proper painting procedures. The students will use watercolor paints to create an abstract painting.
***Students may bring in a smock, paint shirt or old t-shirt to wear over top of their clothes while painting.  I do have a limited number of paint shirts available for those who do not bring in a paint shirt.

 


2nd Grade-
The students will review the project requirements and procedures. The students will finish drawing their cave pictures. The students will use earth-tone colored crayons to color in their pictures. They will then review proper painting procedures and paint their backgrounds using watercolor paints.
***Students may bring in a smock, paint shirt or old t-shirt to wear over top of their clothes while painting.  I do have a limited number of paint shirts available for those who do not bring in a paint shirt.

 

3rd Grade-
The class will be given demonstration of how to transfer animal texture design onto foil, and then how to paint and print their foil properly. The students will finish transferring and then paint and print their designs.   
***Students may bring in a smock, paint shirt or old t-shirt to wear over top of their clothes while painting.  I do have a limited number of paint shirts available for those who do not bring in a paint shirt.

 


4th Grade-
The students will review requirements of realistic landscape project. They will learn coloring techniques that will help their landscapes look more realistic. They will finish coloring in their projects. If there is still time, the students will discuss the differences between two-dimensional and three-dimensional artwork.  

 


5th Grade-
The students will review important rules of composition and how to place objects on their paper in an interesting way. The students will finish their still life exercise. The students will be given the project requirements and then be given demonstration of how to properly begin sketching a still life. They will begin the still life project.   

 
 


6th Grade-
The students will review information on Zen-tangles and the project requirements. They will view various examples and then begin sketching ideas. When ready, the students will begin on final copy.

Days 1-5
(September 15 -September 21)

 

Kindergarten-
The students will review their basic lines, shapes, and colors by completing a review worksheet. The students will then discuss how the same set of directions can result in many different pieces of artwork.  The students will be given a series of specific directions using lines, shapes, and colors. The students will use crayons to color in sections of their project. The students will observe how each artwork turned out different. The drawing will be graded using a rubric that will be sent home with the project.

 

1st Grade-
The students will review different types of lines, shapes, and colors. The students will review the project requirements from last week and then finish the last few steps to create their line landscape. When that is finished the students will be introduced to Abstract Artwork. The student will discuss how and why abstract artwork is made. They will also discuss the differences between realistic and abstract artwork. The students will begin review worksheet.

 

2nd Grade-
The students will review information about the Caves at Lascaux. The students will be given the project requirements and procedures. The students will create artwork using similar conditions to the cavemen (dimmed lighting, rough surfaces, etc). The students will use earth-tone colored crayons to color in their pictures.

 


3rd Grade-
The class will review information on texture and view examples of different textures found in the classroom and in various artworks. The students will practice sketching various animal textures. The students will be given a demonstration of how to transfer their design onto foil and give it texture. They will finish sketching their final design and transfer to foil.  

 


4th Grade-
The students will review information on landscapes.  The students will follow along to create a detailed landscape that properly shows depth through the inclusion of a foreground, middleground, and background. They will color in using colored pencils.

 


5th Grade-
The students will review information on value and shading. They will complete their value worksheet. The students will then discuss still life artwork. They will learn important rules of composition and how to place objects on their paper in an interesting way. The students will sketch a still life using composition rules.  

 


6th Grade-
The students will review information on line and pattern. They will complete worksheet. The students will be introduced to Zen-tangles. They will view various examples and then begin sketching ideas. When ready, the students will begin on final copy.
